A few words about Needle Felting: Felting needles are very sharp and barbed so that layers of fiber are able to be inter-twined as the needle is moved repeatedly through the layers. It is much like sewing an applique without thread. A piece of rigid or high density foam or a brush is used behind the item being felted. The needle needs only to penetrate the layers of felt and a small bit (about 1/4 inch) of the foam to connect the layers of fiber. The more times you pierce the felt layers, the stronger the bond.

Extreme care should be used when needle felting so that you do not put the needles(s) through your finger. The barbed needles will go through your finger smoother than they will come out. Some people like to use a thimble or some type of finger protection. You should always pay close attention to where your fingers are in relation to the needle. Neither wool nor the felting needles are sterile so care should be used when using and disposing of needles.

Needle felting is very easy to master. Kids and older adults alike find it an easy, fun and, satisfying craft. Children should be instructed in the proper use and storage (plastic sheath) of the needles; and they should always be closely supervised. Felting needles are not toys!

With care and attention to your work, you should find needle felting a rewarding and relaxing craft. Most applique patterns and coloring book pictures can easily be converted into a needle felting picture. Yarn and other decorations can be used to embellish your project. Let your imagination guide you and have fun!

Felting needles in many sizes, wools of all kinds and colors, felting supplies, patterns, ideas, and classes are available in the shop. Arrangements may also be made to have classes taught in your home, at a birthday party, a special event, family reunion...

Soft Touch Farm Needle-felting Classes: All classes include all the materials necessary to complete the project during class time and/or materials and instructions to complete the project at home. Supplies to make duplicate projects are available for purchase and selected items may be offered at a discount on the day of the class. Please call to schedule the class you want at a time convenient for you and/or your group.

Class size 1-6. Larger groups can inquire about group rates. Prices are per student. If desired, additional studio time can be purchased and custom classes can be designed.

Quick Rose Boutonniere	1/2 hour	$10	Use a felting tool to make a pretty wool rose that you can use as an everlasting boutonniere.
Sunflowers/Flowers	1 hour	$15	Learn how to use dry felting techniques (needle-felting) to make these woolen flowers
3-D Animal	1 1/2 hours	$20	Take a cookie cutter 4 legged animal to a third dimension. These felted anmals are not wired and pose-able; but they are cute!
Festive Garland	2 hours	$20	Make a 36 inch seasonal garland using shapes made from wool roving, twine, cookie cutters, a felting tool, and embellishments
Felted Picture	2 hours	$25	Combine wool batts and colored wool roving with a felting needle to make a unique 8x10 picture suitable for framing
3-D Gnome	2 hours	$25	Make a gnome (or Santa) using a variety of colored and natural wools and a felting needle
3-D Pos-able animal...	2 1/2 hours	$30	Make a pose-able four legged animal using natural colored wools and wire. Pose-able people fairies... could also be made.
Felted Birds,	2 hours	$20	Sculpt a ball of wool into a realistic sitting bird (about 5 inches long) using colored wools and felting tools. If you would like to add a nest or wire feet and legs, please add $5 for materials and extra time.
Fleece Dog or Cat	4 hours (plus break time	$40	Use wool alone or combine it with the combed-out hair of a beloved pet to make a one of a kind needle-felted sculpture. Class can also be done in two 2 hour sessions
Studio Time with Tools, and Guidance		$5 per hour plus wool


	Once you know the basics, you can arrange to needle felt in the shop and make use of tools, books, fibers, and some guidance. You will have a variety of resources and you only pay for the materials you use. Studio time is also great for finishing a project and/or adding extra details. This is creative time for you with assistance.
